Be it bitter or amicable, a divorce is a huge event: it signals not only the demise of a marriage (or other long-term relationship), but also the death of a dream of a shared future.

So why shouldn't you mark such an important transition?

You could have a ceremony to say 'good riddance'. But equally you could create something that's cathartic and life-affirming. Depending on the state of your relationship, both parties could even be present: it's a healthy way of reassuring the kids that you're still a team and will continue to put their best interests first; and it can also ease the path for friends who might feel wrong-footed by a divorce, or feel they have to 'choose' one partner over another.
